Last week the Ministry of Justice announced that there will be an increase in fees for issuing divorce and nullity proceedings from £410.00 to £550.00.
This is following the Government Consultation on Court fees. It was originally proposed that the fees for divorce proceedings were to be increased by 80% however this was decided against as ‘more affordable’ fees wanted to be maintained.
In addition to this increase, there will be a general uplift of approximately 10% on other fees in civil proceedings:
Her Majesty’s Court and Tribunal Service (HMCTS) costs approximately £1 billion a year more than it receives income. These changes are estimated to deliver more than £60 million in additional income a year.
We will update existing and future clients when the new fees are implemented.
