Could you be due a refund?

From 01 February 2018, the Ministry of Justice has implemented a refund scheme for people who registered a Lasting Power of Attorney (‘LPA’) between April 2013 and March 2017.

In April 2017, the Office of the Public Guardian, the body who process LPA applications, reduced the application fee to £82.00 from £110.00. The Office of the Public Guardian have found that the old application fee was above the costs incurred in processing the applications and around 2 million people may be due a refund.

The amount of the refund will depend on when you paid the application fee. You will also be entitled to 0.5% interest.

The refund is only available to the donor or an attorney. Claims for refunds can be made via:-

You will need to call the Refunds Helpline if the Donor has died or does not hold a UK bank account.

The Office of the Public Guardian are taking up to 12 weeks to process refund claims and the refund will be paid into the donor’s bank account.
