Government announces Independent Review of Building Regulations in respect of Fire Safety

The Department for Communities and Local Government has announced an independent review of the 2010 Building Regulations in relation to fire safety.

This follows the tragic fire at Grenfell Tower, which raised serious questions about the fire safety of multi-storey residential buildings across the country and the use of wall cladding systems.

The review will look at:

  • The regulatory system in relation to the design, construction and on-going management of buildings in relation to fire safety;
  • Compliance and enforcement issues in relation to this; and
  • International regulations and experience in this area.

It is expected that an interim report will be prepared before the end of 2017, with a final report to follow in Spring 2018.
