Is it too early to be thinking about Christmas?

We know that it’s only January but as a separated parent, it is not too early to start thinking about organising next year’s contact arrangements with your children.

December sees our busiest time with parents approaching us to assist with agreeing children contact arrangements with their former partner.

If you have a Child Arrangements Order (‘CAO’) in place, it will almost always include a provision which deals with Christmas contact arrangements. However, if your Christmas arrangements in the past have not gone to plan or you do not have a CAO which deals with Christmas, it is prudent to agree in advance which parent is to have the children on Christmas Day and which parent is to have the children on Boxing Day.

We like to see separated parents get along and find a way to sort contact arrangements amicably as Christmas is such a special time of year. We always suggest that both parents should attend mediation to attempt to resolve matters before thinking about going back to Court as Court is always a last resort.

If you find that you are having difficulties regarding contact with your children generally and a CAO is not being adhered to either at Christmas or throughout the year, please contact Lynn Gooch on 020 8502 3991 for more information.
